Education 120 pupils in Pupil Referral Centres, the hospital school and the re-integration base and provides teaching support to the Child Development Centre

Runs more than 200 courses each year for Heads, Deputies, Teachers and Support Assistants

Arranges instrumental music lessons for over 2,600 pupils each year.

Caries out over 500 advisory and inspection visits to schools each year

Supports and advises over 1,300 school Governors.

Manages over £4.5 million worth of school buildings projects and a PFI project for Whitecross

Deals with tens of thousands of direct enquiries each year from schools, governors, parents, councillors and members of the public.

 


The central purpose of the Herefordshire Education Service is to:

support families, early years settings and schools in the shared task of providing high quality learning opportunities for children and students;

»

support and challenge all early years settings and schools to continue to raise standards of achievement;

»

be a valued part of the cultural and community life of the villages and towns of Herefordshire;

»

make a strong and positive contribution to the success of the Herefordshire Plan, which incorporates the Council's main strategic priorities.

Principal Aims

»

The Education Service in Herefordshire has eight principal aims. Each of the aims contributes to national and local agendas for continuous improvement of pupils' opportunities and achievements, and takes account of the County's rural setting.

EARLY YEARS Secure high quality education and care for young children.

»

SCHOOL PLACES Provide sufficient and suitable school places within local or accessible communities.

»

SPECIAL NEEDS Assess and provide for children with particular learning, emotional, behavioural, physical, and sensory needs.

»

SOCIAL INCLUSION AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT Give vulnerable or disaffected children opportunities to benefit from full-time education. Assist all young people to become healthy, well-informed and responsible citizens.

»

TEACHING QUALITY AND PUPIL ACHIEVEMENT Improve standards of teaching, learning and pupil achievement at all Key Stages of the National Curriculum.

»

LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES FOR 14-19 YEAR OLDS Assist development of broad learning opportunities, including work experience and work-related courses, for 14-19 year olds.

»

CULTURAL, LEARNING AND COMMUNITY EXPERIENCES Encourage people of all ages to enjoy and participate in cultural, learning and community experiences.

»

STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT AND SUPPORT SERVICES Provide or identify high quality strategic management, support services, and sufficient funding to assist the work of schools.
