Reproduced from the Ross Gazette, no. 6921, Thursday September 28th 2006

The Bridge House Hotel is hoping to defend its title as Restaurant of the Year at this year's prestigious Flavours of Herefordshire awards. Three other businesses in the Ross Area are hoping for success as well. The Wilton Court Hotel , Ross, has also been nominated for the Restaurant of the Year award. The Mill Race pub at Walford has been nominated for the Pub of the Year award and Pengethley Farm Shop has been nominated as Retailer of the Year.

The judges have commented that the standard has risen dramatically since the competition started eight years ago. The Flavours of Herefordshire scheme continues to be one of the most popular competitions of its kind in the Heart of England, and has been recognised for raising the standards of quality and service throughout the county. This year's competitors have the added incentive of being able to showcase their work at the new two day, Flavours of Herefordshire Food Festival on October 21 st - 22 nd , at Herefordshire Race Course.

The judges have been anonymously visiting the competitors tasting the food and looking at the use and promotion of Herefordshire produce. The Ross competitors will find out how they have done at the new look gala awards ceremony at the Herefordshire Race Course on Friday, October 20 th . Winner will receive their awards from the guest of honour, acclaimed food writer Sophie Grigson.
