If you don't use it you may lose it! This is the New Year message from Phil Cutter, Mayor of Ross-on-Wye.
Councillor Cutter refers to the town's local shops and services, and particularly the rural bus network around the Ross area, in his greeting to the townspeople for 2007.
He also praises the community spirit prevalent in the town which came together so well on Christmas Day when the annual lunch for the town's senior citizens was enjoyed by more than 60 diners.
Phil's New year message reads: “I wish you a happy and healthy 2007, also a big thank you to all who worked for our local community during 2006. It was a joy to see some of our older generation being served lunch by the WRVS and Lions Club on Christmas Day.
“Our sense of community in Ross is alive and well. Please use our local shops and services in the coming year and our rural bus services, otherwise we may lose some of them.
“For your neighbours, please remember to keep an eye on them if they live on their own, particularly in isolated places, or are elderly or infirm,” Councillor Cutter gently reminds the locals.
Councillor Cutter remains in office, serving his third term as the first citizen, until next May. His official duties will end with a trip to Conde-sur-Noireau in France which is twinned with Ross-on-Wye.
