Ross-in-Bloom Children's Competition   08/07/2008

Once again this year, children aged up to and including 11 years of age are invited to take part in the Children’s Competition.

The Ross Gazette Shield will be presented to the overall winner again this year. In addition The Garden Store has also agreed to sponsor this year and will be providing a prize for the winner of each of the age categories.

Once again everyone is invited to “Make a Tray Garden”. However, due to the demand of last year, and the varied sizes that were produced, the rules will be slightly changed.

Gardens must be in a container or on a tray or board that are no larger than the size of an A4 piece of paper. Group entries however can be on a large tray – similar to the size of a normal lap tray.

There will be 2 age categories – ‘7years and under’ and “8 years to 11 years’ for individuals. Groups of children must be 5 years and under in age.

Gardens can be made at home but there will also be an activity day, with the opportunity to make your garden on the day, in the Heritage Centre. Materials will be provided for this but there will be a voluntary donation to Ross-in-Bloom funds for the use of any materials provided. You can of course bring along extra materials and items that you have made at home to put in your garden.

The activity day will take place on Saturday 19th July from 10.30am to 12.30pm. Anyone who wishes to bring in his or her own garden can do so on that day before 1pm. All winners will be notified by telephone on Sunday 20th and can be collected during the week after 23rd July.

Judging will be taking place that afternoon and all the gardens will be on display for the Heart of England in Bloom judges to see when they visit Ross on Tuesday 22nd July.

A full; list of the rules etc is available both at the library and in the Heritage Centre. There is no need to fill in an entry form before the 19th, but you must register your garden with Ross-in-Bloom when you either make it or bring it in.

No gardens can be accepted at the Heritage Centre before 19th July unless it is by prior arrangements. As usual any enquiries will be dealt with by Sue at the Heritage Centre or by telephoning 01989 563956 before 8pm daily. Good Luck.
