PO chiefs to face Ross protestersThe battle to stop the closure of Ross-on-Wye’s Tudorville Post office continues with a public meeting to be held at the Youth Centre at 5.30pm on Friday, September 19, when representatives from Post Offices Ltd and Postwatch will meet locals determinded to keep the service open.
The meeting has been called by Tudorville Community Association chairman Colin Gray, who said the meeting would also be attended by local councillors.
“The message is ‘use it or lose it’, and we need to get as many people as possible to come along from the local community.
“A lot of people will suffer if the post office closes – not only Tudorville residents but others from outside the area, such as Walford, as well as businesses from Ross town who use our local facility to save waiting at the main outlet. And parking is much easier here,” he said.
Tudorville was named last week as one of 20 in the county facing the axe.
Others in the campaign to keep the Ross office open include Councillor Jo Wood, Lib Dem MP Paul Keetch and his prospective parliamentary candidate colleague Sarah Carr.
An outreach service has been proposed for Tudorville to replace the post office, but it is unclear what services will be available in the future.
Other post offices in the Ross area earmarked for closure are at Bishops Wood, Llangrove and Whitney.
The post office consultation ends on October 7.
