This programme specially devised by conductor Christopher Hogwood begins with an operatic feast: after the popular overture to Weber's Der Freischütz, the outstanding soprano Christiane Oelze makes a second appearance in the season to sing two of its heroine Agathe's beautiful arias. Then comes Mendelssohn's evergreen Violin Concerto, played by the internationally acclaimed Giuliano Carmignola, and his picturesque and stirring Scottish Symphony.
